Genesis 45:12
“Behold, your eyes see, and the eyes of my brother Benjamin, that it is my mouth that speaks to you.”
What does Genesis 45:12 mean?
Joseph is speaking here to his brothers who sold him into slavery years earlier, but didn't recognize him until this moment. He's asking them to look at him directly, to really see that it's truly him—their own brother—standing before them and speaking. It's a moment of vulnerability where he's essentially saying, "Stop doubting. Stop being afraid. This is really me." There's something deeply human about needing others to truly see us, especially when we've been separated from them or when they've hurt us. Joseph is bridging an enormous gap of time, pain, and misunderstanding by making himself fully present to them. He's asking them to let their eyes and ears confirm what might still feel impossible to believe.
