Genesis 44:21
“You said to your servants, ‘Bring him down to me, that I may set my eyes on him.’”
What does Genesis 44:21 mean?
Pharaoh is speaking to Joseph's brothers about Benjamin, the youngest brother they've left at home. Joseph (who they don't recognize as the powerful Egyptian official before them) is testing whether his brothers have truly changed, and this command to bring Benjamin down to Egypt is part of that test. The phrase "set my eyes on him" is deeply personal, expressing a desire not just to see someone, but to look upon them with attention and care. For anyone who's been separated from someone they love, there's real emotion in that simple desire to lay eyes on them again.
