Genesis 42:30

What does Genesis 42:30 mean?
The brothers are reporting back to their father Jacob about their encounter with Joseph in Egypt, though they don't yet know who he is. When Joseph questioned them harshly about their background and intentions, it frightened them, and they interpreted his stern manner as suspicion. Their fear in that moment was so real that they saw only a powerful foreign official interrogating them, not realizing this was their own brother testing whether they'd changed from the men who'd sold him into slavery years before. Sometimes when we're afraid or guilty, we can only see the surface of a situation, missing what's really going on beneath it.
