What does Genesis 42:28 mean?
When Joseph's brothers discover their money mysteriously returned in their grain sacks, they're overwhelmed with fear. This wasn't a pleasant surprise for them, but a terrifying sign that something supernatural was at work. They couldn't have known that Joseph, who they'd sold into slavery years before, was secretly testing them and showing them mercy. Their panic reveals deep guilt. These men had done something terrible, and now the universe seemed to be responding in ways beyond their control. In their fear, they instinctively turn to God, recognizing that something bigger than coincidence is happening. Sometimes when life feels like it's spinning in unexpected directions, it's because God is working in ways we don't yet understand, often with purposes far more complex and ultimately more loving than we realize in the moment.
