Genesis 42:19
“If you are honest men, then let one of your brothers be bound in your prison; but you go, carry grain for the famine of your houses.”
What does Genesis 42:19 mean?
Joseph is testing his brothers to see if they've truly changed since they sold him into slavery years ago. He's holding them as prisoners and demanding they prove their honesty by leaving one brother behind while the others go home with grain to feed their starving families. It's a painful choice, but Joseph is really asking: will you abandon one of your own like you abandoned me? The test is designed to reveal whether genuine remorse and loyalty live in their hearts now, or whether old patterns of self-interest will win out again.
