What does Genesis 42:17 mean?

After Joseph's brothers arrive in Egypt seeking grain, Joseph accuses them of being spies and decides to test whether they're telling the truth about having a younger brother back home. He locks all of them in prison for three days, creating tension and forcing them to sit with their anxiety and guilt. This moment matters because the brothers are already haunted by what they did to Joseph years earlier (they sold him into slavery), and now they're confined together with their conscience. Sometimes God allows difficult seasons to surface what's hidden in our hearts, not to punish us forever, but to bring us to honesty and change. If you're in a hard season right now, it might be worth asking what's stirring beneath the surface that needs your attention.
