What does Genesis 40:16 mean?

The baker's excitement here is so human and recognizable. He's just watched Joseph interpret the cupbearer's dream with startling accuracy, and it turned out to be good news. Now he wants his turn, hoping for the same positive outcome. There's a vulnerable hopefulness in how he jumps in to share his own dream, perhaps thinking that if the first interpretation went well, surely his will too. Of course, Joseph's gift for understanding these dreams isn't about wishful thinking or being kind to whoever asks next. What makes this moment poignant is that the baker doesn't know yet that the same God who gave Joseph insight will show him something quite different, and far harder to bear.
