Genesis 39:11
βAbout this time, he went into the house to do his work, and there were none of the men of the house inside.β
What does Genesis 39:11 mean?
Joseph's employer Potiphar had given him complete authority over the household, so Joseph moved freely through the estate managing daily operations. On this particular day, the house happened to be empty of other servants and workers, which created a vulnerable moment. This ordinary detail matters deeply, because in the very next moments, Potiphar's wife will make advances toward Joseph, and no one will be around to witness his response. The emptiness of the house sets the stage for one of Scripture's most powerful examples of someone choosing integrity when no one's watching and when the consequences could have been hidden.
