What does Genesis 35:6 mean?

Jacob arrives at Bethel, a place he'd encountered years earlier when fleeing his brother Esau, where God had promised to protect and guide him. Now he returns as a man with a large household and livestock, bringing his whole community with him into the land God had promised to his grandfather Abraham. This moment marks a kind of homecoming and a step deeper into God's covenant, even as Jacob carries the weight of his past mistakes and family complications. The note that Luz is also called Bethel (which means "house of God") reminds us that this isn't just a geographical location, but a place where Jacob has already experienced God's presence and faithfulness.
