What does Genesis 33:3 mean?
Jacob is approaching his brother Esau after twenty years apart, and he's terrified. He had stolen Esau's blessing and birthright long ago, then fled in fear. Now, seeing Esau coming with four hundred men, Jacob takes an extraordinary step: he bows down repeatedly, lowering himself to the ground seven times as he walks toward his brother.
