What does Genesis 32:31 mean?
Jacob had just spent the night wrestling with God (or an angel, depending on interpretation), and this moment captures something both beautiful and raw: he's been transformed by an encounter with the divine, but the cost is visible in his body. The limp is real. The wound is real. This image speaks to anyone who's been through a spiritual awakening or a hard-won faith moment. We don't emerge unchanged and pain-free, walking on air. Instead, we often carry marks of the struggle, reminders that meeting God can fundamentally alter us. Jacob even received a new name from this encounter, but he also received an injury he'd carry for the rest of his life. Both are true at once: he was blessed, and he was hurt. There's something honest and hopeful about that. It tells us that limping forward, marked by what we've endured, is still moving forward. The sun still rises on us even when we're wounded.
