Genesis 3:2
“The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden,”
What does Genesis 3:2 mean?
The woman is responding to the serpent's question about what God has allowed her and her husband to eat. She's reciting what she understands to be God's generous permission: they have access to the fruit of the garden's trees. Her answer is accurate as far as it goes, but in the next verse we see the serpent begin to twist her words and plant doubt about God's trustworthiness, which sets the tragic story of humanity's first disobedience into motion. There's something poignant here about how easily truth can be distorted through clever questioning, especially when we're not fully thinking through what we believe.
