What does Genesis 27:9 mean?
Rebekah is directing her son Jacob to bring her goats so she can prepare a meal disguised to trick his aging father Isaac into giving Jacob the family blessing meant for the older son Esau. This moment captures a mother's desperation to secure what she believes is her younger son's rightful inheritance, even though she's willing to use deception to do it. The scene shows how far people will go when they're convinced they know better than God's plan. Rebekah had actually received a word from God that Jacob would be chosen (Genesis 25:23), yet instead of trusting that promise, she schemes and manipulates. It's a reminder that our own anxious plans, even when motivated by love for our children, often create more damage than the patient trust we should have offered instead.
