“By your sword will you live, and you will serve your brother. It will happen, when you will break loose, that you shall shake his yoke from off your neck.””
What does Genesis 27:40 mean?
Esau receives this difficult prophecy after his father Isaac has already blessed Jacob instead of him. The blessing promises that Esau will live by the strength of his own efforts ("sword") and will be subject to his younger brother, but it also hints at a future freedom—a time when his descendants (Esau became the father of the Edomites) would break free from Judah's dominance.
