Genesis 27:33
“Isaac trembled violently, and said, “Who, then, is he who has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? Yes, he will be blessed.””
What does Genesis 27:33 mean?
Isaac's shock here is profound because he's just realized he blessed the wrong son. He thought he was blessing Esau, his favored older son who was supposed to inherit the family covenant, but Jacob deceived him by bringing food and pretending to be Esau. In that moment of trembling, Isaac grasps that something irreversible has happened, that his blessing has been spoken and cannot be taken back. What makes this so poignant is Isaac's acceptance of what has occurred. Despite his initial shock and the manipulation involved, he recognizes that the blessing stands.
