Genesis 26:7
“The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife”, lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.””
What does Genesis 26:7 mean?
Isaac finds himself repeating a painful family pattern. His father Abraham had done the exact same thing in similar circumstances, lying about his wife's identity to protect himself from danger. Fear makes Isaac assume the worst about the people around him, so he decides deception is safer than honesty. What's striking is how this lie reveals the gap between Isaac's trust in God and his trust in people.
