What does Genesis 26:33 mean?
Isaac had just made a peace agreement with King Abimelech after years of conflict over water rights in that desert region. To seal the deal, they shared a meal together, and that same day Isaac's servants found water in a well, which felt like a blessing on their newfound peace. Isaac named the well "Shibah," meaning "oath" or "seven," connecting it to both the covenant they'd just sworn and the seven lambs he'd given as a sign of good faith. The name "Beersheba" literally means "well of the oath," and this story explains why that ancient city carried that name for generations to come, marking the spot where enemies became allies and where God's provision arrived at just the right moment.
