Genesis 25:6
“but to the sons of Abraham’s concubines, Abraham gave gifts. He sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, to the east country.”
What does Genesis 25:6 mean?
Abraham had other children besides Isaac through women who weren't his primary wife Sarah. As he was nearing the end of his life, he made sure these sons received gifts and inheritances, but he deliberately separated them from Isaac by sending them away to the east. This arrangement protected Isaac's position as the main heir while still providing for his other children with dignity and care. The passage shows us something true about how families sometimes work: loving multiple people doesn't mean treating them identically, and making hard choices about inheritance or responsibility doesn't have to mean abandonment. Abraham found a way to honor his obligations to all his children while still maintaining the covenant promises he'd made through Isaac's line.
