Genesis 24:17
“The servant ran to meet her, and said, “Please give me a drink, a little water from your pitcher.””
What does Genesis 24:17 mean?
Abraham's servant has traveled far from home to find a wife for Isaac, and he's asked God for a specific sign: whichever young woman offers not only him a drink but also waters his camels will be the one. When he sees Rebekah coming with her water pitcher, he asks for that drink, testing whether she matches the character and generosity he's been praying for. His urgent, polite request opens the door to what becomes one of the Bible's most beautiful stories about provision and answered prayer. Sometimes the simplest acts of kindness, like offering water to a stranger, reveal something true about who we are.
