What does Genesis 21:24 mean?
Abraham speaks these simple words after making a peace agreement with Abimelech, a neighboring king. By swearing an oath, Abraham is saying "I commit to this, and you can hold me to my word"—it's his way of making the promise binding and trustworthy. In ancient culture, a sworn oath carried serious weight because people understood you were putting your reputation and honor on the line.
