What does Genesis 20:13 mean?
Abraham is explaining to Abimelech why his wife Sarah agreed to say she was his sister rather than his wife. He's describing how, when God called him to leave his homeland and wander as a stranger in foreign lands, he and Sarah made a plan together: she would claim to be his sister, hoping this would protect him from harm in places where he had no family or standing to defend him. What Abraham is really confessing here is that fear drove them to deception. He's acknowledging that Sarah showed him a kind of loyalty by going along with this risky scheme, even though it put her in vulnerable positions.
