What does Genesis 2:24 mean?

When a man and woman commit to marriage, they're meant to create a new primary bond, separate from their family of origin. This doesn't mean abandoning parents or being disrespectful, but rather shifting the center of loyalty and daily life to this new partnership. "One flesh" speaks to the deep physical, emotional, and spiritual union that marriage represents, not just the sexual relationship but the intertwining of two whole lives. It's a beautiful picture of how marriage creates something entirely new, where two people become genuinely united in purpose and direction.
