What does Genesis 19:36 mean?

After Lot's daughters got him drunk in a cave following the destruction of Sodom, they each became pregnant by him without his knowledge or consent. This happened because the daughters, having lost their husbands and fearing they were alone in the world, took matters into their own hands to continue their family line, a desperate act that reflects their isolation and desperation in that moment. The story is difficult to read because it involves serious moral harm, yet the Bible includes it without softening the reality. Both daughters' sons became ancestors of nations (Moab and Ammon), reminding us that God's story continues even through our most troubled chapters and choices. The passage invites us to sit with uncomfortable truths rather than pretend brokenness doesn't exist among people God cares about.
