“and said, “My lord, if now I have found favor in your sight, please don’t go away from your servant.”
What does Genesis 18:3 mean?
Abraham addresses one of his mysterious visitors with deep respect and urgency, asking him not to leave. In this moment, Abraham doesn't yet fully understand who he's speaking to, though the reader knows these are heavenly messengers. His plea reveals something important about hospitality in ancient culture, but more than that, it shows his hunger for connection and blessing. He recognizes something unusual and precious in these strangers and instinctively wants to hold onto the encounter, sensing that staying near them matters.
