What does Genesis 18:11 mean?
Abraham and Sarah had waited a long time for the child God promised them, and by this point in their lives, nature had seemingly made that promise impossible. Sarah was far past her childbearing years, and Abraham was elderly too. The writer is setting up a moment where human logic says "this cannot happen," which makes what comes next, when God reiterates his promise, all the more striking.
