Genesis 16:2
“Sarai said to Abram, “See now, Yahweh has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my servant. It may be that I will obtain children by her.” Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.”
What does Genesis 16:2 mean?
Sarai had been waiting years for the child God promised, and her patience had worn thin. In her culture, a common practice was for a wife to offer her servant as a surrogate to bear children for the family, and Sarai saw this as a practical solution to her empty arms. Abram agreed to her plan, setting in motion consequences neither of them fully understood.
