Genesis 12:7
“Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, “I will give this land to your offspring.” He built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.”
What does Genesis 12:7 mean?
When God first appears directly to Abram (later called Abraham), He makes a stunning promise: the land where Abram is standing will belong to his descendants. Abram's response is immediate and physical—he builds an altar right there, marking the moment as sacred and declaring his trust in what he's just heard. This encounter sets the foundation for everything that follows in Scripture. Abram has left his home and family on God's word alone, and now God confirms he's on the right path by making a covenant promise about land and offspring.
