Galatians 6:3
βFor if a man thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.β
What does Galatians 6:3 mean?
Paul is pointing out a painful human tendency: we sometimes build our identity on false foundations and convince ourselves it's real. When we overestimate our importance, abilities, or spiritual maturity while ignoring our actual limitations and weaknesses, we're not fooling anyone but ourselves. This kind of self-deception damages us quietly because we stop growing, stop asking for help, and stop being honest about where we genuinely need to change. The antidote isn't harsh self-criticism, but rather honest self-awareness paired with humility about what we actually know and can do.
