What does Galatians 1:21 mean?

Paul is simply telling us where he went after his dramatic encounter with Jesus changed his life. After his conversion, he spent time in these regions (Syria and Cilicia were adjacent areas in what's now Turkey and the Middle East) rather than immediately returning to Jerusalem or launching into major ministry. This period of his life reminds us that transformation often includes a time of quiet growth, learning, and adjustment before God calls us into bigger work. It's a gentle reassurance that taking time to process and develop, rather than rushing into action, can be exactly what we need.
