What does Galatians 1:10 mean?
Paul is wrestling with a real tension here: when you follow Jesus, you often can't do both. You can't twist your faith to make everyone comfortable with you and also stay true to what Christ is actually calling you to do. He's defending his apostleship against critics who wanted him to soften his message or add rules to it, and he's saying plainly that his job is to answer to God, not to win a popularity contest. This hits hard for anyone caught between what their faith calls them to and what the people around them want from them. Sometimes doing the right thing means disappointing someone, and Paul is saying that's actually a sign you're on the right track. The loyalty check is simple: whose approval am I really after? If it's people's approval first, Christ gets second place.
