Ezra 6:12
“May the God who has caused his name to dwell there overthrow all kings and peoples who stretch out their hand to alter the same, to destroy this house of God which is at Jerusalem. I Darius have made a decree. Let it be done with all diligence.”
What does Ezra 6:12 mean?
King Darius of Persia is declaring his official support for the rebuilding of the Jewish temple in Jerusalem, and he's doing it with real authority. He's essentially saying that God will protect this project and punish anyone (even other kings) who tries to stop or damage it. What makes this remarkable is that a foreign ruler is invoking God's name and blessing the work of God's people, not out of religious belief necessarily, but as a matter of honoring what God has established.
