“Then Jeshua stood with his sons and his brothers, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to have the oversight of the workmen in God’s house: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brothers the Levites.”
What does Ezra 3:9 mean?
When the Jewish exiles returned from Babylon to rebuild their temple, they needed trusted leaders to oversee the massive construction project. Jeshua and Kadmiel were Levites, members of the priestly tribe set apart for temple service, so it made sense that they would coordinate the workers and maintain standards for God's house. This verse shows how the community organized itself around shared sacred purpose, with experienced families taking responsibility alongside one another.
