What does Ezra 2:62 mean?
When the Jewish people returned from exile in Babylon, the community needed to verify who had the right to serve as priests—a role that required descent from the priestly line of Aaron. Some families couldn't produce genealogical records proving their lineage, so they were excluded from temple service until they could establish their credentials. This moment speaks to something deeper than bureaucracy: it's about how displacement and loss can fragment our sense of belonging and identity.
