What does Ezra 2:4 mean?

This verse is part of a long list recording the families who returned to Jerusalem after exile in Babylon. The number 372 represents the descendants of Shephatiah who made the journey back home, a sign that God was gathering His scattered people and restoring them to their land. While long genealogies can feel dry to modern readers, each name and number here represented real families reclaiming their place and identity after decades away. In the midst of exile's hardship, this inventory of returning people offered hope: God hadn't forgotten them, and He was faithful to bring them back.
