What does Ezra 2:36 mean?

This verse is part of a list recording who returned to Jerusalem after the Babylonian exile, around 538 BCE. The priests mentioned here were descendants of Jedaiah who served in the temple, and this particular group numbered 973 people. What makes this detail meaningful is that it shows the faith community didn't just survive the exile, but enough of them came back with enough resources and resolve to rebuild their spiritual center. The careful counting suggests the people cared about accounting for who had returned and what they could contribute to restoring worship in Jerusalem.
