Ezekiel 45:1
““‘“Moreover, when you divide by lot the land for inheritance, you shall offer an offering to Yahweh, a holy portion of the land. The length shall be the length of twenty-five thousand reeds, and the width shall be ten thousand. It shall be holy in all its border all around.”
What does Ezekiel 45:1 mean?
When the Israelites would receive their land after exile, God instructed them to set aside a sacred portion for his temple and the priests who served there—not as payment, but as a physical reminder that the land itself was a gift from God. This holy district would be roughly ten miles long and four miles wide, marked off before anything else was divided among the tribes. By establishing this dedicated space first, before property lines were drawn for families and clans, God was teaching his people that worship and holiness belong at the center of community life, not squeezed in around the edges of what we keep for ourselves.
