Ezekiel 36:32
“I don’t do this for your sake,” says the Lord Yahweh. “Let it be known to you: be ashamed and confounded for your ways, house of Israel.””
What does Ezekiel 36:32 mean?
God is being direct here: when He restores and blesses His people, it's not because they've earned it or deserve it. The restoration comes from God's own character and purposes, not as a reward for their behavior. He's asking them to face the reality of what they've done wrong, to feel genuine remorse, so they can understand the depth of grace they're actually receiving. When we grasp that God's kindness toward us isn't payment for good behavior but flows from His nature alone, it changes how we see ourselves and Him, moving us from shame that crushes us to shame that awakens us to what we've been forgiven.
