Ezekiel 35:6
“therefore, as I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “I will prepare you for blood, and blood will pursue you. Since you have not hated blood, therefore blood will pursue you.”
What does Ezekiel 35:6 mean?
Edom (the nation Ezekiel is addressing here) had rejoiced when Jerusalem fell and had even participated in the violence against God's people. This prophecy declares that their own violence will come back on them, not as random chance but as the direct consequence of their cruelty. When we celebrate others' suffering or add to it, we're setting ourselves on a path that leads nowhere good. The repeated emphasis on blood isn't about God being vengeful in a petty way. It's about a sober reality: those who live by violence and indifference to suffering find that violence doesn't stop with their victims. It becomes their own fate. Ezekiel is reminding us that God sees everything, that injustice doesn't go unnoticed, and that choices have weight in this world.
