Ezekiel 34:6

What does Ezekiel 34:6 mean?
God is describing his people as lost sheep, scattered across mountains and hills with no one to shepherd them back. The image captures the pain of abandonment, the feeling of being alone and untended when you desperately need guidance and care. In Ezekiel's time, Israel's leaders had failed their people, leaving them spiritually adrift and vulnerable, but God sees this abandonment and it grieves him. This verse comes right before God promises to search for his sheep himself, to gather them in, and to be the shepherd they never had, so it's ultimately a prelude to restoration and belonging rather than a permanent state of being lost.
