What does Ezekiel 33:6 mean?
A watchman's job in ancient cities was to stand guard and sound an alarm when danger approached, giving people time to prepare or escape. This verse describes what happens when a watchman sees the threat coming but fails to warn anyone, and disaster strikes as a result. The person who dies isn't held responsible for their own death, but the watchman is, because he had the knowledge and responsibility to speak up and didn't. Ezekiel uses this image to talk about spiritual responsibility. If you see someone heading toward real harm, whether it's a pattern of addiction, a failing relationship, or a choice that contradicts their faith, staying silent makes you accountable for that silence.
