Ezekiel 33:27
““You shall tell them, ‘Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “As I live, surely those who are in the waste places will fall by the sword. I will give he who is in the open field to the animals to be devoured; and those who are in the strongholds and in the caves will die of the pestilence.”
What does Ezekiel 33:27 mean?
God is speaking here through the prophet Ezekiel to people who have survived Jerusalem's destruction but are scattered and vulnerable, clinging to whatever shelter they can find. He's delivering a hard message: their current hiding places (wastelands, open fields, fortresses, caves) won't save them from the consequences of their choices. Whether they're exposed or protected, whether they're armed or defenseless, judgment will reach them. This isn't meant to be cruel for its own sake, but honest. Sometimes we convince ourselves that if we just hide well enough or find the right safe place, we can escape the real problems we're facing. Ezekiel's words cut through that denial and say: no, there's nowhere to run from what needs to be addressed. But the hard truth is also an invitation—if hiding won't work, then maybe it's finally time to turn around and listen to what God is actually saying.
