Ezekiel 33:17
““‘Yet the children of your people say, “The way of the Lord is not fair;” but as for them, their way is not fair.”
What does Ezekiel 33:17 mean?
The people were blaming God for being unjust, claiming his standards and consequences were unfair. But Ezekiel points out the real problem: they themselves weren't living fairly or righteously, so they couldn't see clearly what fairness actually looked like. When we're going our own way and ignoring God's direction, we naturally perceive his boundaries as unreasonable, almost like someone who refuses to follow a recipe blaming the cookbook for their failed dish. This verse invites us to consider whether we're judging God's fairness from a place of genuine seeking or from a place of wanting to do things our own way.
