What does Ezekiel 30:16 mean?
God is speaking here about judgment coming to Egypt, using fire as a symbol of destruction and suffering. Sin (a major Egyptian city) will experience overwhelming distress, No (another important city, also called Thebes) will be shattered, and even Memphis, the capital, will face enemies in broad daylight. The specificity of naming these cities shows that this isn't vague threat but concrete upheaval affecting the entire nation. For Ezekiel's original audience, exiled in Babylon, this prophecy would have been deeply meaningful, as Egypt was a neighboring power they watched closely and sometimes hoped might rescue them from captivity.
