Ezekiel 28:23
“For I will send pestilence into her, and blood into her streets. The wounded will fall within her, with the sword on her on every side. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.”
What does Ezekiel 28:23 mean?
Ezekiel is describing God's judgment against Tyre, a wealthy city that had grown proud and corrupt. The "pestilence" and "blood" aren't meant as abstract poetry but as real consequences: disease, violence, and collapse that would come through warfare and siege. When Ezekiel says "they will know that I am Yahweh," he's pointing to a hard truth that ancient people understood deeply: sometimes suffering and loss are what finally crack through human pride and make people recognize God's authority and reality. This doesn't mean God enjoys the suffering, but rather that judgment itself becomes a kind of message, forcing people to reckon with powers larger than themselves and their own ambitions.
