What does Ezekiel 24:7 mean?
Jerusalem has become like a city that has shed innocent blood so openly and defiantly that she refuses even the basic dignity of trying to hide it. In ancient times, when animals were slaughtered, people would cover the blood with dust as a matter of course, both for practical and spiritual reasons. Ezekiel uses this image to show that the city's violence and injustice are so brazen, so unapologetic, that it's as if they've left the blood exposed on bare rock for everyone to see, refusing shame or concealment. This is Ezekiel's way of saying the people have become hardened in their wrongdoing. They're not even pretending to care anymore about the harm they've caused, let alone trying to make it right. It's a stark picture of what happens when a community loses its conscience and stops acknowledging the damage it inflicts on the vulnerable.
