What does Ezekiel 23:11 mean?
Ezekiel uses two sisters, Oholah and Oholibah, as symbolic representations of Israel's northern and southern kingdoms. Here, the prophet is showing that Judah (Oholibah) watched her sister Israel (Oholah) fall into exile and spiritual disaster, yet instead of learning from that warning, she doubled down on the same unfaithful behavior. The language about corruption and depravity refers to Judah's pursuit of foreign alliances and idolatry rather than trust in God, choices that were actually more reckless than what came before. It's a sobering picture of how we sometimes see the consequences of wrong choices in others' lives, yet still repeat the same mistakes ourselves, thinking somehow we'll escape the same outcome.
