What does Ezekiel 22:16 mean?

God is telling Jerusalem that He will let the consequences of their unfaithfulness become visible to the surrounding nations, so that through their humiliation, they'll finally understand who He really is. Sometimes we only recognize God's presence and power when our illusions about ourselves are stripped away and we're forced to see things as they truly are. This painful process of being exposed and broken down isn't punishment for punishment's sake, but rather an invitation to genuine knowledge of God, born from honest reckoning with ourselves and His character.
