Ezekiel 20:4
““Will you judge them, son of man? Will you judge them? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers.”
What does Ezekiel 20:4 mean?
God is asking Ezekiel to help the Israelites understand their own history, not to condemn them. The people have become disconnected from how their ancestors repeatedly turned away from God, and they're repeating those same patterns without recognizing it. By facing what their forefathers did wrong, they might finally grasp why they're in the situation they're in (exile and separation from God). This isn't about harsh judgment or shame for its own sake. It's an invitation to wake up and see clearly, the way we sometimes need to understand our own family patterns or personal history to break free from them. When we understand what went wrong before, we're better positioned to choose differently.
