What does Ezekiel 20:36 mean?
God is reminding His people that He takes the same kind of serious account of their choices as He did with their ancestors. When the Israelites wandered in the desert after leaving Egypt, God held them responsible for their unfaithfulness and disobedience, and that same standard of accountability applies to the current generation hearing this message. This isn't meant as a threat of arbitrary punishment, but rather a call to wake up: God hasn't changed His expectations, and He pays attention to how we live. The wilderness period their ancestors experienced was formative and costly, and Ezekiel is essentially saying, "Don't think you'll escape the same scrutiny just because you're in a different time."
