What does Ezekiel 17:14 mean?
God is describing why He allowed Judah's kingdom to be humbled and weakened, even though it felt like abandonment. The point wasn't punishment for its own sake, but to teach the nation something essential: real strength and security don't come from military power or political independence, but from faithfulness to God's covenant. When a kingdom tries to stand on its own ambitions and broken promises, it's actually building on sand. But when it returns to covenant obedience, that's when genuine stability comes. This speaks to something many of us learn the hard way: the things we think will keep us safe and successful often let us down, while the commitments we make to God and to his ways become our true foundation.
